DARE has four functional literacy centres for the children at the railway stations in Varanasi. Two are at Varanasi cantonment railway station, the third is near City railway station and the fourth is at Sarnath. We provide a nutritious meal to children who come for the daily literacy classes so that they need not look for money during the time they are with us. Besides helping them to read and write we also organize entertainments and take them occasionally for outings and picnics. Tests are conducted once a month and best performers are rewarded. Our aim is to get them out of the railway station and slums at least for two to three hours. Classes are organized so that they enjoy their time with us.

Children are helped to develop their talents in many fields like computer, dance, music etc. Every Saturday a music teacher comes to teach them music, tabla and harmonium. During summer vacation the children are taught Indian classical dance and music by professionals. Every Sunday they are given opportunity to learn popular dance and on every Saturday hymns and music. They are also given opportunity to learn fine arts and crafts, self defence and skill in reading and writing.
